SAIL is a senior wellness program. Participants have fun learning foreign languages, studying history, painting in art class, discussing current events and foreign affairs, writing their memoirs, exercising, learning how to use a computer and much more! The instruction for all of these activities and classes are mostly seniors themselves; using the valuable skills that they have cultivated throughout their lifetime.
The genius of the program is that it is a ministry by and with older adults rather than just a ministry to them. The participants feel a sense of ownership as they set their own course. SAIL rejects the myth that senior citizens are frail, lonely and dependent, sliding down the hill to the end of life. People of all faiths work together in SAIL to help older adults sustain and celebrate life!
The primary purpose of SAIL is to enrich the later years with opportunities for service to others, self-expression, meaningful work, and close friendships. An equally important goal is to help older adults remain independent in their own living situation as long as they choose.
