MELBOURNE — More than 2,000 volunteers packed the Clemente Center at Florida Tech today to help feed hungry children in Brevard County.

People walked in long lines holding styrofoam trays where they put an assortment of food items. After the tray was filled, wrapped and bound for a truck, the volunteers got back in line and repeated the process, many times.

The Children's Hunger Project teamed up with the United Way and Health First to produce 25,000 packages of food that will go home with elementary students in need in an event billed as the "World's Largest Food Packing Event."

"It's been a marvelous day," said Bob Barnes, executive director and co-founder of the Children's Hunger Project.
