On December 9, 2025, we commemorated 15 years of service to Brevard’s children. The Children’s Hunger Project recognized our volunteers, supporters, donors, and past and present executive directors with a special commemoration.

“Gratitude is not just saying thank you. It’s that warm, fuzzy feeling that goes along with the appreciation that you have for those you are thanking. Our volunteers pour so much love into TCHP. It’s truly a gift to be part of such an awesome cause.” – TCHP Executive Director Cheryl Cominsky

Knowing I had food waiting for me at home meant that I didn’t have to face another worry. It meant I could sit down, take a breath, eat, and feel human again. It meant that even on the hardest days — after being picked on, after watching my mom stress, after wondering why life had to feel so heavy — I still had something to look forward to. Something that made me feel cared for. – Maia

HEARTFELT APPRECIATION TO:

A very special word of thanks to Fr. John, Pastor of St. John the Evangelist. Father John and this parish community have been faithful champions of The Children’s Hunger Project for many years, and the children of Brevard County are truly blessed by their support and compassion.

We are especially grateful to Sysco and Gordon Food Service, not only for supporting tonight’s meal but for the partnership and dedication they show in helping us source food for our children—especially during times of extraordinary need. Our appreciation also goes to Carroll Distributing for donating all of the adult beverages for this evening. Decor was made possible by Event Essentials 321. Jennifer Marren and John Casey have poured hours of love and creativity into making this room stunning.

A special thank you to our talented chefs, Johnnie, and to husband Michael Cominsky and son Matthew. Thank you to our “Feed My Flock” ministry volunteers who are here with us tonight lending a hand. The wonderful volunteers of St. John the Evangelist and our Kitchen Ministry, who lovingly prepared the food for us this evening and to all who are helping to serve.

The families of our staff and board members—many of whom are regularly “voluntold” to help with our many TCHP tasks. Your patience, support, and willingness to serve behind the scenes do not go unnoticed, and we are deeply grateful.

Through the years, we have been blessed with extraordinary partners—non-profits, churches, civic groups, business leaders, and countless individuals. Partners like Dick Begley, Bunney Finney, Delores Spearman, and Jonnie Swann of Project Hunger helped create summer solutions that combine literacy with nutrition. Because of their vision, we proudly partner with United Way Space Coast on our Feed and Read program, providing both food and books to children in summer school and camps.

Our 922 Crew serving the most at-risk zip code, is a collaboration of 32922 zip code non profits, like Family Promise, Matthew’s Hope, Sharing Center of Central Brevard and TCHP that get together along with our churches, schools, police and government to share resources and collaborate to solve problems.

A partner of TCHP from the beginning is the Sharing Center of Central Brevard, whose team picks up our food every week to deliver to 10 central Brevard schools. Together we also host the Health First Fight Child Hunger 5K, now celebrating its 10th year. A special thank-you to Health First for their longtime support.

We are also grateful to our civic organizations—to name a few, the Satellite Beach Lions, the Viera Women’s Club, our many Rotary clubs, such as Rockledge Rotary family and the efforts of our annual Derby Day event that help TCHP. A special thank you to fellow Rotarians, Nelson Green and Flooring America who donate $25 of every floor sold.  And to Slug a Bug whose in-kind services keep us bug free!

Thank you also to our Brevard Chambers.

For the past 10+ years, Brevard County Jersey Mike’s have chosen TCHP to be the beneficiary of their month of giving in March every year and the Day of Giving the last Wednesday of March. The community supports by coming out in droves. This past year the sales from the 8 Jersey Mike’s Brevard county stores resulted in an over $92 k donation for TCHP – all these years, totals almost a half a million dollars! Bryan Price thank you for your unwavering support of our mission.

To the many business partners, small and large who have supported us for years, others more recent, our friends from Southeast Petro, Orlando Health, Launch Credit Union, BOA, Embraer, Florida Blue/FHCP, Guardian Manufacturing, ML, The Viera Company and to all the others, thank you!

To the Nelson family, who housed us for years on the Cocoa Hyundai property. We were blessed to find our forever home in the heart of Cocoa Village in a building that was owned by the Shah family…their generous donation of the equity in the building has been a blessing as we have now been in our forever home for over 3 years! And to MH Williams, who donated their expertise to renovate it.

To Pastor Chris Carson of Riverside Presbyterian Church—another angel who made sure we had shelter when we needed it.

Churches across the county have adopted schools—not only funding food but packing and delivering it themselves. Trinity Lutheran in Titusville provides food for Coquina Elementary. Ascension Catholic Community support Creel, Croton, and Sherwood elementary schools. Georgianna Church on Merritt Island supports Cambridge Elementary and has been an inspiration and blessing to us. St. David’s by the Sea, among many others—thank you.

The true backbone of TCHP is our volunteers. Every pack is assembled and delivered by volunteers—this year alone nearly 3,000 volunteers contributed more than 13,000 hours. Their love, compassion, and energy are the heartbeat of our mission. “Gratitude” is more than a thank-you—it’s that warm feeling that fills your heart when you know others care. Our volunteers live that out every day.

Many of our volunteers also serve by attending the various events we participate in throughout the year, generously giving their time wherever it’s needed. Over five years ago, an event group with a passion for helping our kiddos approached us about partnering—and from that, Battle Bros Events was born, beginning with their very first Wing Battle. Our role was to provide volunteers, and Battle Bros committed to donating a portion of their proceeds to support our mission. Five years and many incredible events later, Battle Bros has donated nearly $100,000 to The Children’s Hunger Project. But it’s not only their financial support that makes such an impact—it’s the platform their events give us to connect with our community and raise awareness about childhood hunger. A heartfelt thank you to the entire Battle Bros family—Sean, Jake, Jamie, Sara, and all who work so hard to make these events possible.

Kids Helping Kids

Nothing makes our hearts soar like seeing children helping other children. From birthday parties to bake sales, lemonade stands to reading fundraisers, kids are not waiting to grow up to make a difference. Our TCHP Youth Council and high school clubs raise awareness, host events, and lead with passion. Ella Grace Helton is a 12-year-old artist, actor, performer and empath who was born with the innate need to help others. She began raising money for TCHP at age 5. When the pandemic hit, Ella made her mom bring her into our office every week to pack food. She was compelled, and fulfilled. To Ella, it was as important as homework or dance class.

Many thanks to Dave Dischler, TCHP board vice chair, for his role in the presentation of the Evening of Gratitude. Thank you to Dave Jones, saxophone player for our event.

We would not be here today without our donors. Your financial support is the reason children have food on weekends. To every donor—thank you!
