The Children’s Hunger Project is honored to have recently received a legacy gift from the estate of Anna Maria “Mickey” Shipman, a generous woman whose life was defined by love, kindness, and a deep appreciation for helping others.

Born in Steenbergen, Netherlands, Anna grew up alongside her brothers and sisters and lived through the challenges of World War II. During the war, she met American Staff Officer Thomas Cardamone, whom she later married. In 1949, she moved to the United States, where she built a life centered on family, faith, and meaningful relationships.

Later in life, Anna married Frank Shipman, and together they settled in Melbourne, Florida. They enjoyed traveling the world and sharing a quiet life filled with love and companionship. Despite living in the United States for many years, Anna remained deeply connected to her Dutch roots. She cherished conversations in her native language, followed news from the Netherlands, and delighted in visits from family bringing Dutch cheese, chocolates, and candies.

Those who knew Anna remember her as a warm and caring person who took a genuine interest in others. She encouraged those around her to pursue their passions and always made people feel valued and appreciated.

Anna Maria “Mickey” Shipman’s legacy gift will provide weekend food  packages for 79 children throughout an entire school year. ❤️

When Anna passed away peacefully in December 2024 at the age of 96, she chose to continue making a difference through her legacy. In lieu of flowers, her family invited friends and loved ones to support causes that were meaningful to her, including The Children’s Hunger Project.

Through her thoughtful legacy gift, Anna’s compassion will continue to impact the lives of children across Brevard County. Her generosity will help provide nutritious weekend food packages to children facing food insecurity, ensuring they have access to the nourishment they need when school meals are unavailable.

Anna’s remarkable gift is enough to sponsor 79 children for an entire school year, providing weekend food packages that will help ensure local children have access to nutritious meals when school is not in session. The impact of her generosity will be felt week after week as children receive the food they need to return to school ready to learn and succeed.
