As we gear up for the back-to-school season amid the frenzy of school supply shopping, let’s not forget the pressing issue at hand: child hunger.
While backpacks and notebooks are crucial, so is a full stomach. Nourishment is the key that unlocks a child’s potential to excel academically, physically and emotionally. Your support is not just filling stomachs, it’s feeding futures. Thank you for joining us in this important mission.
The growing need, by the numbers:
2022/23: 57 schools / 3,900+ students
2023/24: 60 schools / 4,300+ students
It is our collective responsibility to ensure that no child in Brevard County goes to school hungry.
We can bring hope to the lives of local children in need. Here is how your gift makes an impact:
When TCHP surveyed school staff members regarding student performance after receiving TCHP food packs, the recipients, as well as the classrooms, were positively impacted. Teachers saw:
80% improvement in student attendance
82.5% improvement in student attendance on Fridays
92.5% improvement in student academic performance
90% improvement in student interest in daily activities
92.5% improvement in student ability to focus on schoolwork
The percentage of elementary students who receive free/reduced price meals in our county has reached 70%. This indicates a significant portion of our community is struggling to meet their basic food needs.
The face of hunger in Brevard: Did you know that one in ten Brevard County students is raised by a grandparent and nearly 40% of Brevard children live in single-parent homes? Limited affordable housing and a homeless population that includes children further intensifies the issue. Many households are unable to afford adequate nutrition for the children in their care, greatly impacting a child’s academic performance and behavior. We cannot stand by while children in our community suffer due to hunger. That’s why we are reaching out to you to join us in fighting hunger in Brevard County. Our ambitious goal for August is to feed an additional 100 children for the school year. With your help, we can provide a lifeline of hope and nourishment, giving local kids a level playing field to reach their full potential.
Imagine the impact we can make together. We all agree that no child should ever have to go to bed hungry or worry about where their next meal will come from. By sponsoring a child, you are not only providing them with nourishment; you are giving them hope and a brighter future. Your generous donation will directly support purchasing nutritious food packages for hungry kids locally. Join us in giving these children the energy and focus they need to excel in school and beyond. Every dollar counts and every sponsorship makes a difference.
Join us in our mission to end weekend hunger for 100 children in Brevard County during August. With your help, we can create a community where no child goes hungry. Donate today and be a part of this life-changing initiative. Together, we can make a lasting impact, leveling the playing field for kids in need and ensuring a brighter future for our most vulnerable citizens.
“Sabal Elementary School is a Title 1 school with 100% free and reduced lunches. We have many students here who are in transition and/or living with family and friends to make ends meet. Sometimes these families have multiple children. The front office gets requests from parents as well as teachers’ recommendations for our students in great need. We have many families that don’t have parental support and students are living with relatives. We take those factors as well as household income to be able to decide who is in greatest need of the food packs that are sent home on Fridays to supply for them for the weekend. These are the students who desperately need weekend assistance from The Children’s Hunger Project.” Title 1 Teacher, Sabal Elementary School
