Students at Ralph Williams Elementary School are using their creativity to help fight childhood hunger through an Empty Bowls project benefiting The Children’s Hunger Project! Students will create handmade ceramic bowls while learning how their talents can make a meaningful difference for children right here in our community.

The 5th and 6th-grade art club students are energetic, eager to take on real-world challenges, and love working with clay!

From Ms. Skelly:

“This school year, I want to empower these young artists to lead a meaningful project that connects our studio directly to the community through an Empty Bowls initiative—an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. Once our beautiful bowls are fired, it’s time to prepare for the Empty Bowls community event! To spread the word, students will create promotional flyers including a “call for artists” to gather additional bowl donations from local creators, as well as advertisements for the main event. At the gathering, guests will enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a donation, they will choose one of the unique student-made ceramic bowls to take home—a lasting reminder of the empty bowls in our world and our own community. Best of all, every dollar raised will go directly to The Children’s Hunger Project: Brevard County’s Backpack Program. By supporting this project, you aren’t just buying art supplies—you are helping my students realize that their creativity has the power to feed our community.”

Ms. Skelly will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by November 16.
