The “Young @ Heart Health Fair” from 10 am. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 30 at the Wickham Park Community Center in Melbourne will be the last free senior expo by Brevard Senior Expos until the fall.
“We are emphasizing more on pro-active medicine, but we will have, of course, Medicare and things like that,” said event organizer Nina Verruso. “We will have programs for fall prevention.
Seniors can receive free health screenings, including the return of DNA testing for cancer, stroke and heart attack risk, and medication sensitivity. This will be a free test paid for by Medicare and seniors can take advantage of this by providing their ID and Medicare card.
Other free health screenings will involve memory tests, blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to benefit The Children’s Hunger Project (click for list here) and/or cans of dog and cat food that will benefit the Brevard Humane Society. Attendees who do so will receive four extra door prize tickets.
May is also better hearing month, according to Ms. Verruso, so the health fair will also feature a mobile office to check attendee’s ears from wax blockage to hearing loss.
Seniors can enjoy a morning out featuring entertainment, free door prizes and giveaways, food and 60 vendors dedicated to helping meet seniors’ needs.
With this being the last free health fair until the fall, Ms. Verruso said it’s important for seniors to at least come and get the latest update from Medicare changes to food stamps.
Seniors should remember to bring their Medicare card for health screenings.
